Your Packing Plan

FOUR WEEKS OUT

Start packing non-essential things. Make sure to save the absolute daily necessities until late in the packing game.

  • Out-of-season: Decorations and clothing
  • Surplus (currently not in use): Linens, towels, and office supplies
  • Collectibles: Scrapbooks, figurines, etc.

THREE WEEKS OUT

  • Artwork and Decor: Framed pictures, souvenirs, these are often fragile (on box mark FRAGILE)
  • Entertainment: Books, CDs, vinyl records, and consoles
  • Special Kitchenware: Fine china and crystal, mostly, but also pie pans, barbecue tools, and any other kitchen items that do not see routine use

TWO WEEKS OUT

  • Games: puzzles, stuffed animals, etc. (that haven’t already been put away). If you have kids. Let them pick a few toys that they can have out, until moving day.
  • Jewelry: Feel free to keep a few pieces on. Secure the rest in a jewelry box.
  • Linen Closet: Only keep bedding currently in use. The rest will start to be packed around this time

ONE WEEK OUT

  • Electronics:  phones, computers, tablets, etc.
  • ALL Kitchen Equipment: The rest of kitchen. Not packed earlier. Should now be ready to go
  • Laundry: Make sure you have enough clean clothes just to get where you’re going.
  • Medicines and Bathroom Supplies: Pack up everything that isn’t a vital prescription.

1-2 DAYS OUT

  • Furniture and Appliances: This is not exactly a simple part of the moving process. Just be careful when moving furniture through tight corridors and down stairs
  • Curtains, Rugs, Other Furnishings: The “miscellaneous” category
  • Toolbox: Make sure you have basic tools where you can reach them, as you’ll probably need them for assembly jobs at your new place
MOVING DAY
  • Bedding:  It’s now time to pack your bed and sheets
  • Remaining Toiletries and Medicine: Be prepared (minimal items).
  • Items for Children and Pets (Including Snacks): It’s important that children feel like they’re important after the upheaval of moving.
  • Cleaning Supplies: You may want to clean up your place before you leave. After items moved out. It is perfect time to clean.
